Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by Editor, Palo Alto Online, on Jun 29, 2007 at 2:09 pm

Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Palo Alto, has called for a federal investigation into the role that Vice President Dick Cheney had in diversion of water from the Klamath River Basin in 2002.

Could someone tell me how this is a federal crime?

If the water wasn't diverted, the famers would have suffered.

Either way, someone was going to be shafted...

If anyone wonders why the Congress approval rating is half the President's, look no farther than political silliness such as this.

This does seem to be over-the-edge publicity seeking by our esteemed representative. Most of us here in our liberal refuge from reality don't much like Bush and Cheney. But that doesn't mean we think they should be beat up for our entertainment by our congressional representatives.

I wish she'd find something better to do.

Can't find a citation, but some of the claim of depletion was phony, caused by the decision to kill hatchery salmon because of unproved genetic weakness. Kinda like the lynx fur hoax.

When a Federal official is pressured into an action which wipes out salmon fishing for thousands of fisherman, it worth an investigation.

Do your homework before the knee-jerk reaction. Eshoo is one of dozens of western congressmen calling for this. It is in response to a WP investigation, which, if proven accurate, is troubling and worthy of congressional oversight.

Would that Eshoo actually carried through on this. This is merely one of the crimes Cheney should be investigated and impeached for. Where is Eshoo when we need her???
