The way we were
Waverley Writers look back at a rich 25-year history with new book
She captured the mood of the whole event perfectly-- our collaborative effort in creating the book, the special work of the team who assembled our text and photos, and the fondness we all have for Waverley Writers. Our reception and readings on the evening of Friday, June 22 were absolutely fantastic, joyful, inspiring, and somber as we remembered events and people from Waverley's earliest days (1981) and even the predescessor groups and events, to the present. Those of us who still had energy at the end of the evening adjourned to University Cafe afterward, where we passed around a copy of our Palo Alto Weekly article. We are saving any extra copies we find!
The book itself, which most of us saw for the first time only that evening, is part memoir, part referance work, an atlas of poetry venues and poets around Palo Alto and the South Bay, a personal and social history with a generous helping of poems. Hurry! Get your own copy, and one for a friend. And be sure to join our readings when they resume in September.
