The Palo Alto Weekly has launched its "Best Of" feature, with voting set to end July 13.

So what are some of your favorite Palo Alto places? Is there a restaurant you can't live without or place you love to stargaze? Which Palo Alto cafe has the best coffee? Which places give Palo Alto its identity?

Shady Lane on University Ave. is a godsend when it comes to buying unique gifts. And I don't know what I'd do without Gordon-Biersch. There are some great places around town. The new Old Pro is a lot of fun and the Stanford Theater is very special.

All of the great pizza places (Pizza Chicago, New York Pizza, Pizza My Heart, etc.).

The Green Elephant! Yum! As often as possible!

I notice people are responding with man made places where you spend money. How about a hike in Foothill Park, a walk through the Atrastra preserve or bird watching in the Baylands. Palo Alto has some very beautiful natural places to relax and just enjoy the scenery.

Castro street restaurants.

Darn... it is Mountain View.

-La Creme de Cafe coffee house (Middlefield and Loma Verde): every day!

-Rick's Ice Cream (Charleston center): most weeks!

-Douce France bakery in Town & Country

-Baylands

-Mitchell Park sprinklers in summer

-Palo Alto Family YMCA (Ross Road)

I do agree with lover of the outdoors. The character of a place does not boil down to its stores and eateries. I love foothills park. I love the Baylands. I love Stanford University. Those are 3 spots of great beauty.

BTW I don't find Shoreline all that great. It has too much of an artificial feel to me.

Foothills Park, the million dollar view above Fire Station #8. There is only one place better on the whole peninsula. Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, but that's been off-limits to the public for over 20 years....

The Stanford Theatre. An oasis for lovers of classic movies and the best deal in town due to the non-profit status. Thank you David Packard!

The underpass on page mill (oregon expressway) is a lovely place

thanks to the local pigeons. It's a place for all to see, and is especially

nice on warm days like today!
