How can our City Council even consider spending more money than it would take to man Fire Station 8, in order to host a bicyling event? Our priorities are completely out of order.

I would love to see the Tour of California ride through Palo Alto, but look at San Jose's Grand Prix. There are big questions about the money that it generates vs the cost.

Since the city wants to have part of the race through Stanford, I think this would be a wonderful opportunity for Stanford to extract some concessions from the city of Palo alto, since they want to run part of the race through their private property.

This is an opportunity that Palo Alto should not miss. It will bring many thousands of people to our downtown area, along with nationwide and possibly worldwide press coverage. I am glad to see the downtown business leaders supporting this. It rates up there with the Olympics and World Cup events that have been hosted at Stanford in the past. Previous Tour of California prologues have started on the Embarcadero in San Francisco and finished at the top of Telegraph Hill. It is hard to imagine lowly Palo Alto competing with that, but it might happen. Who knows, we might even get the University Ave. underpass re-paved and made safe for bicyclists!

Does this mean our City will repair all the potholes on the selected route? - Hurrah, infrastructure repairs!! Whatever it takes!!
