Royal Wedding , and "The Hats"

I watched the wedding after the fact this Saturday morning, and it was very well done. It clearly lifted the spirit of British subjects, and I am sure in these difficult times around the world provided a respite from things that people are dealing with day to day.

The thing that got me was the hats the women guests wore. What I see women and girls in this country wear are ball caps with a pony tail pulled in the back of the cap. Not good wedding attire, even as a guest.

Why don't women wear hats in the States like we saw in the UK at this wedding?

...and all dresses. Not a pants suit or slacks in the mob.

Hats are a big tradition in the UK. The first thing an English lady thinks when she receives a wedding invitation is "oh I must get a hat". Because of this, hats are readily available to buy in every department store and village shop. You can also go to London and have a milliner design one for you if you have the means. Hats, especially affordable ones, are hard to find in the US and even trickier to find one appropriate for a wedding. I shopped far and wide for a hat to wear to a British wedding once. It was nearly impossible to find a hat that was not a ball cap, sun hat or hiking hat but I finally found a simple blue one to match my dress. However I had the plainest hat there and it was slightly squashed during the trip too.

Oh dear, Gentlemen.

These are not hats, they are called fascinators. And everyone knows that one should not wear trousers to a church wedding unless one is male.

I feel sorry for Prince Charles because he's in his 60's and still not king. 500 years ago, a crown prince worth his salt would have had HRM the Queen bumped off by this time, or at least exiled on an island someplace. Charles' best king days are long gone. The Queen should have abdicated long ago and given Charles his chance.

Oh, God no! The greatest service to mankind E II can do is to outlive Chuck. Chuck is not fit to rule even his own household. His environmental extremism would have us back in the Dark Ages.

God Save The Queen!!!

I think the Queen is amazing! She has conducted herself in exemplary fashion for years, and is a much better ceremonial royal than the younger Sloane Ranger types and their hanger-ons.

It does seem like an anachronism that the new Duchess of Cambridge will employ her sister as a "lady-in-waiting." Apparently it's worth it for the status and access.

If you really want to shake your head at the younger "royals," watch the fairly recent tv bio-documentary about Fergie, for something really vulgar (At least she was stripped of her royal title)

Some guy says: "The Queen should have abdicated long ago and given Charles his chance." The Queen and the Palace aids are smart enough to know that Prince Charles is simply not popular in Britain and even less popular in the British Commonwealth.

The Monarchy will only continue to exists in the future by remaining popular - they are a very expensive luxury!! There are many in Britain who hope Charles's reign will be really short so they can crown every ones favorite for the job: "Prince William."

As for those hats. Women dress very differently in Europe than they do in the United States. Even going to work Londoners, particularly women, are far more formal. My childhood friends only wear jeans for gardening, and still dress up to go to the local pub - no jeans!!
