A unique volunteer opportunity reading to preschool children in Redwood City
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by JoAnne Wetzel, a resident of the Palo Verde neighborhood, on Jun 20, 2006 at 4:23 pm

The Redwood City Public Library is looking for volunteers to read to preschool children once a week as part of itsTraveling Storytime program. Volunteers learn how to perform a storytime for children from birth to five, then are assigned to read once a week at a home day care or preschool in Redwood City. This is a volunteer commitment of only 30 minutes a week, but in that half hour, Traveling Storytime volunteers help children develop the preliteracy skills they need to succeed in school. The Traveling Storytime was honored this spring by the San Mateo County Reading Association for its exemplary service in the promotion of literacy.

The next two part training session will be held on Thursday, July 6 and Thursday, July 13, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Main Library at 1044 Middlefield Road, Redwood City. To sign up, or for more information, call the Traveling Storytime at 650-780-7014 or email them at wetzel@plsinfo.org.
