New Creperie Bistro Maxine
Restaurants, posted by Ella, a resident of the Downtown North neighborhood, on Jun 20, 2006 at 10:53 am

Has anyone heard anything about this place? Apparently, it's a crepe place going in on California Ave. I'm curious to know when it opens, etc.

It's not on Cal Ave, but at 548 Ramona. It's opened, but I haven't tried it yet.

Bistro Maxine opened in downtown Palo Alto on Wednesday June 14th.

We are located at 548 Ramona St. between University and Hamilton.

I ate at Bistro Maxine yesterday and enjoyed it. I had a Mt. San Michel crepe, which has brie, walnuts, and thinly sliced apples. The crepe was beautiful and was served with a small balsamic-dressed salad. The food prices seem reasonable and the crepes are lovely.

The only criticism is that my glass of iced tea, which was served in one of those tiny jelly-jar-type glasses that hold maybe 1/2 cup, cost $2.25, which was not listed on the menu. Hot tea is listed at $1.75. Not a big deal, but I was only able to flag the waitress down for two more refills when things got busy at lunchtime, so I was thirsty!

I chatted with the owner about the lack of signage and publicity, and he says that should change shortly. The restaurant opened in late June, so it's only been three weeks. Give it a shot.

You must try the crepes, I hear the recipe comes from France and it's fabulous! It's especially wonderful with Nutella chocolate!

All I can say is that if Stepahnie Wansek is the owner, it has to be good. What a professional, hard working woman she is, with a GREAT reputation in Palo Alto. Haven't tried it yet, but will because of Stepahnie.

Good luck Bistro Maxine

Bistro Maxine is great. Great place for either dinner crepes. We had the sucre and the nutella crepe and they were great. Palo Alto really needed a nice cafe like crepe place and its perfect for coffee and crepes in the evening. Very nicely done up too. One suggstion is that the lights are a bit bright so they might want to dim them a little to make it a little bit more cosy. Buts it great. Definitely intend to go back often.
