Just Say No to Mandarin Immersion

Original post made by Kate on May 8, 2007

[Portion removed by Palo Alto Online staff.]

How about all of those in the school district who are opposed to Mandarin Immersion, based on financial issues, start making it clear to the BOE that we will be voting as a block to deny any further funding to the district. Let the BOE know, via email, letter or phone that you support their initial decision regarding MI and expect them to honor that decision and to reject the threats being made by a few individuals in the district. Make your position regarding MI clear to the Board using financial leverage.

Gail Price has been consistent in her position on MI and does not support it as proposed at this time.

How about all of those in the school district who are opposed to continuing the strife, controversy, and fanning of the flames contact the board and tell them to hurry up and vote, stop dithering, stop explaining and re-explaining themselves ad nauseum, and let's just move on. Hire some reconciliation experts. Let's move on to the future. Let's stop the vitriol. We all know each others opinions. Scandalmongering does the community no good.

Perhaps you missed it, but the BOE already did vote. We did move on. The problem is that the proponents of MI didn't like the result and forced the issue to be re-opened in the community. Now, it's your opinion that everyone is suppose to be quiet and allow a second vote to take place without discussion or you accuse them of engaging in scandalmongering? How does "Scandalmongering" apply here???
