Loma Verde & Louis + Roadwork = Confusion for school kids
Schools & Kids, posted by Palo Verde Parent, a member of the Palo Verde School community, on May 7, 2007 at 8:46 am

They are digging up Loma Verde again. This morning at 8.05 confusion reigned at the intersection as flag man and crossing guard gave opposing directions to drivers and pedestrians. One stopped the traffic to let kids cross and the other directed traffic to move through the intersection. One can't speak English, don't know about the other. The roadwork makes so much noise that no one could hear anything being said. One trailer on Louis was blocking the crosswalk.

When confusion results like this, we can understand that the City does not communicate with itself. Someone (who?) from the utilities should have contacted traffic and whoever looks after crossing guards and worked out how this should have been dealt with. It should not be left to elementary age kids to deal with.

This week is Operation Safe Passage (a little ironic). This was in our school enews today:

**** OPERATION SAFE PASSAGE

Palo Alto Police will be conducting “Operation Safe

Passage” Mon-Fri May 7-11. Police will concentrate

enforcement activities at schools & on school routes,

issuing tickets to motorists, pedestrians, & bicyclists

who violate traffic safety laws. The program mission

is to provide students with safe passage to school.

PTA Council thanks PAPD for their ongoing

partnership in providing safe routes to school.

I believe the website has contact info for reporting things (and of course you can also call the police...
