Disaster Planning for Earthquake and Pandemic is Essential
Issues Beyond Palo Alto, posted by Alice Smith, a resident of the Green Acres neighborhood, on Mar 25, 2007 at 4:36 pm

I received this Link, today, to the website of the US Geological Survey (a local resource in Menlo Park), which shows how fast the earthquake moved in 1906. An earthquake greater than the 1906 quake is now predicted by USGS within the foreseeable future. It behooves each of us to prepare for this eventuality. Look at the USGS link and take action now. The pandemic flu epidemic could also spread rapidly and will equally be deadly in its impact. Predictions are that 2-3% of the population will die and 40% will protract the flu in waves over 1-2 year cycles. The question posed by the experts is not if, but when this will happen. Again, by being prepared, you will have a better chance of surviving and helping your family to survive. Act now. Don't wait. Our local Palo Alto Area Red Cross, inter alia, has great materials on its website for making plans for earthquake and pandemic readiness.

I believe the new reservoir and the command center in the new police station will facilitate disaster response. Fiber optic might help. Tasers for the cops might eliminate the need to shoot looters.

5 days food and water supplies and a manual can opener. Battery or hand crank radio. Active Boy and Girl Scouts, police reserve, triage station operators, Ham station locations and protocol, locator service. Cash on hand to tide you over until the ATMs are back up. Pet food. NRA sticker for your front window. 5 days clean underwear.

Shovel. Laser pointer.
