I just realized after reading your note. I should have put Herbert Hoover Elementary School 1968 Class graduation.
And speaking of Herbert Hoover Elementary School, not far from where you live (you indicated Midtown), we buried a "time capsule" near where the flagpole stood. I think that was around 1964. Maybe some other former student remembers.
And Norm, your H. Hoover quote - boy did he ever get a walloping and pretty much took the blunt on the "economic downturn" during his administration.
Many years ago, I ran for PA City Council and during a candidate forum, I was asked by the then mayor (the name will come to me in a second) during a candidate / candidate question and answer: "So Andy, in the event of an economic downturn in Palo Alto, what would you do?" Damn, I hardly even knew what an economic downturn meant at the time (I wasn't too bright), and then compounding it with what would I do?!?!?
I hid my expression of confusion with a Ronald Regan-type look and smiled, cocked my head and said, "Well, ----, I'd need a little more data in front of me to give you a thoughtful answer. So, I'll have to pass." (In looking back, I tossed out a softball question to an incumbent asking what accomplishment he was most proud of during his last four years.)
Anyway, thank you, Norm, for your thoughtful H.H. quote. It makes me wonder whether history is repeating itself (again).
