Thanks to the city for providing crossing guards for school kids
Schools & Kids, posted by Palo Verde Parent, a resident of the Palo Verde neighborhood, on Mar 18, 2007 at 8:25 pm

I want to thank the city for providing the funds the school crossing guards. I also want to thank the school district and the Palo Alto Police Department (Sgt. Herrera) for working with the city to manage these guards.

With more crossing guards, we can encourage more children to walk to school. Parents should feel safer having their children walk instead of driving them to school.

There is a woman who acts as crossing guard by the intersection of Channing and Alaster by Duveneck. She is there every day, in the worst weather as well as the best. She oversees a very bad intersection with LOTS of cars, a 3-way stop, and LOTS of pedestrians. She handles that intersection like a first-class pro, and I have always been warmed to see her doing her duty so well, protecting our kids, even when it must have been VERY uncomfortable for her. Other crossings either lack a guard or have guards that switch out, or get abandoned by guards long before this lady leaves her post. She is wonderful, and if there are ANY awards given to outstanding guards, she deserves one. I don't know her name, I do not know her personally, I just see her working hard and well every day, and I love her for what she is doing and the way she does it.
