There is a critical shortage of blood right now, I responded to the call last night. I did more than donate blood, I donated platlettes (sp) too. That's a longer procedure that allowed me to relax and watch a long movie while the process was going on. In the end I was given the royal treatment of lying in my chair and finishing my movie, while the nurses fussed over me and brought me cookies and juice. It was real rough.

Please, if you CAN donate, consider doing it. It is one way that you can feel REALLY appreciated. :)

You're Just in Luck!

The Stanford Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive at Gunn High School on March 23 (Friday) between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. It will be on campus at the Student Activities Center (SAC). All donors should bring an official ID card with them. Drinks and snacks will be served by volunteers, including myself, and each donor will walk away with a FREE AMC movie ticket.

To Donate you must be:

-Between the ages of 16 and 74 yrs old (16 yr olds need parental consent)

-Be free of serious cold/flu symptoms

-At least 110 pounds

Please help save lives!!!

-Every donation can save multiple lives (white blood cells, platelets, and other componenets of blood are used)

-Every 2 seconds, someone in the US needs blood

-25% of the Bay Area's blood supply is imported from other regions in the US (tornadoes, hurricanes, or cold weather in the east affects our blood supply)

-Experience new techonology! Donors can choose to use new machines that can take double the number of red blood cells while recycling plasma back into the body (FREE T-SHIRT INCLUDED)

Just a side note: The Stanford Blood Bank has better cookies than the Red Cross, if that sort of thing is important to you. But regardless, please donate if you can!

Give your old car to charity and take a tax writeoff. If you could write off the retail value of a pint of blood there would be no shortage. Since the gratification is delayed, there would not be the same hazard as when paying cash for blood and attracting unhealthy folk. Everyone else in the blood chain quite correctly collects a salary, so this policy would properly acknowledge the value of the donation with more than cookies and pins.

My brother died waiting for a kidney.
