I wonder if the spam string is on purpose

Original post made by resident, Another Palo Alto neighborhood, on Aug 21, 2014

A few posters have sounded unhappy with some of the issues discussed on the threads, I wonder if the spam is on purpose?

Began around 4am I think. Quite a string. Seems to be all cleaned up now at around 9am. I didn't see any of this on Almanac or Mountain View sites.

Looked like a software script exercise. The verification codes here are much easier to hack than most Captchas. Could be a local middle schooler or could be anybody on the planet. I don't envy the PA Online staff this morning. If it's all from a specific IP address, maybe it could just be blocked, but I'm not sure how that works coming through an ISP like Comcast or AT&T.

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
