disgusted with cal ave changes

Original post made by andrea, another community, on Jul 25, 2014

I grew up 2 blocks from cal ave..until 2 years ago that was my neighborhood. In the last two years I have been heartbroken by the greed and changes taking place. For one...just fix the darn fountain and turn it back on already!!!! WE like it just as it is. Second, to the greedy landlord who evicted Cho' are heartless. His little business was a staple for so many of us locals who grew up on his amazing food. We miss him! JJ&F..gone..the best sandwiches we all grew up on! The building replacing where the Edge was, too freaking big!!!! Who approved that monstrosity!?? Now Bargain Box is gone..sad. And in its place we have a La Boulangerie coming..oh goody...a chain store. I will not be going there. Cal Ave used to have it all. Pet store, pharmacy, five n dime, hardware, toys, thrift store, etc and now its all gone!!! PA claims to be so pedestrian friendly..well it used to be. We could walk over and do all our we have to drive all over town. WHO approves these businesses to go in? Who approved to rip out all the trees and then re plant them, only to rip them out again?! Do you guys have a clue what you are doing? You are ruining what was once a nice, quaint place to visit. We dont need or want another failing university ave. Who feels the same way? Im glad we moved away..this just breaks my heart. This isnt the PA I grew up in.

This is no longer a great place to grow up! Phony values, overcrowding, snobbiness and exclusionism, classism, reverse racism, AND it has become unsafe ( especially for children on bicycles--or anyone on a bicycle for that matter). Not a good place to raise children.

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
