HALF-PRICED PASTRIES, IF YOU'RE LUCKY ... It's never announced ahead of time — a sign is simply slapped on the front door, usually at night, and usually if there are a lot of surplus pastries left. "It's pretty random," said a cashier at Paris Baquette, 383 University, Palo Alto, describing how the downtown bakery will sell its food items, such as green pea bread, sweet rice donuts or coffee buns, for half price at arbitrary times. "People are surprised when we do it. When that half-price sign goes up in the front, things move pretty fast. Customers love it," she said.

Edgewood Plaza has a big parking lot? That's because many other tenants haven't moved in yet. They're dreaming.
The design of the parking lot is odd too.Weird access. And too much housing.

Philz Coffee in Midtown is making a lot of money for the Palo Alto Police, who are not shy about ticketing cars parked in the bike lane across the street.

If that is true Philz, then as a driver I am pleased to hear because in my experience the cop cars and the fire trucks are the worst offenders and they need a few tickets themselves.

Saying that, the whole Loma Verde/Middlefield intersection has gotten real bad in the past few years, possibly the amount of time Philz has been there. The reconfiguration of the parking lot hasn't helped because it has confused many as to which is the entrance and exit, which never used to be the case. Even the parking lot down by the liquor store is confusing as stores have claimed spots for their own customers.

This intersection needs to be looked at. On many occasions I have not been able to exit Loma Verde on the gree light to turn due to pedestrians and the volume of turning traffic. It is a busy bike intersection and also has many pedestrians due to Philz and also to catch the buses and shuttles.

Please PAPD do something to help this intersection work.

The intersection is fine, just occasionally you need to wait through one traffic light cycle.

As an avid biker, I appreciate the CPA Police ticketing cars parked in the bike lane.

The signage is a bit confusing...so I can understand why drivers park in the bike lane. Larger signs and perhaps a painted curb would help.

The layout/operation of Philz is problematic. They don't move patrons efficiently through the process...resulting in more cars than necessary accumulating in the parking lot. Philz would be well served to retain IDEO to improve the functioning of the store.

For the record...Large "Greater Alarm", medium cream no sweetener.

"making a lot of money for the Palo Alto Police"

I think you mean for the City of Palo Alto. The police dept doesn't receive revenue from parking tickets.

And here's a clue: don't park in bike lanes...everyone knows that.

Paris Baguette is a chain, which uses deceptive advertising. Very little, if anything, Parisian about the place.
