Anonymous bloggers?

Original post made by astonished on Nov 19, 2013

Does anyone else think it is interesting that the weekly is allowing an anonymous blogger to post on educational issues related to bullying? Particularly since this blogger seems to have it out for the school district and has posted frequently under the same moniker, Edmund Burke, again always critical of the school district. Doesn't really seem fair.

Astonished,

I'm not sure whether your objection is that the blogger is anonymous or may post viewpoints that contain criticisms of the school district. We have three bloggers who are blogging anonymously, each because they have concerns about privacy and possible retribution. Each has agreed to follow our Terms of Use, both in their own posts and in editing/moderating comments made by others. We are seeking to provide lots of diversity in bloggers and have an open invitation to those in the community who are interested. "Edmund Burke" will be blogging on a broad range of educational issues, and we think this blog will provide a valuable perspective. If your concern is that this particular blogger has previously been critical of the school district or school board, we view criticism as an integral part of an effective democracy and one of the reasons for operating a community website. To characterize this blogger as "having it out for the school district" is exactly the viewpoint that leads to the need for anonymity. We welcome other viewpoints, either through comments on blogs or by applying to be a blogger. If you are interested in offering your perspectives or insights on a regular basis, please contact us.
