As I sit here in my bed at El Camio Hospital, I am receiving a series of infusions for treatment of a neurological disease called Chronic Immunological Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP)

CIDP causes the immune system to eat away the insulation coating of the nerves, leaving the patient weak, uncoordinated, and eventually paralyzed if left untreated.

The treatment, not cure, is a regular series of infusions made from the concentrated plasma of at least 1,000 donors. This makes it unbelievably expensive, $25,000 per IV, 5-6 IVs in hospital once every 1-3 months. Insurance covers only 70%.

And it is in short supply, because of a shortage of donors and because it is an orphan drug..

Please help by donating blood. It is painless, you get to recline in a comfy chair, and you get to eat all the yummy cookies and juice you want afterward, guilt-free! And you can have the knowledge that you have certainly saved a life.
