Great gourds

Long gone are the days when the only squash people could name was zucchini. This fall, farmers markets and grocery stores are filled with winter squashes of many shapes, sizes, stripes and colors.

Thanks, great article. Did not know that there were so many different types of squashes and that there are many uses including making bowls. I have attended Jyoti's Ayurvedic cooking classes and they are very informative, practical and beneficial

The California Ave Farmers' Market on Sundays has a lot of these unusual squashes in the autumn.

This is with regards to Viji's compliments about the Sri Sri Ayurveda cookery course. Thanks Carol for interviewing me for this wonderful article for your Newspaper. I had also mentioned this to Carol Blitzer, author of the wonderful article Great Gourds, that apart from my own business Spice by the bay,(see www.spicebythebay.com) thru which I offer catering, cooking classes and also sell my line of "Ahimsa" coconut and cardamon cookies, I also volunteer to teach a Sri Sri Ayurveda Cookery course thru a non-profit, The Art of Living Foundation. This is the course Vijis's compliments refer to. I have been teaching this course for many years all over the Bay Area. The course is a four day cooking course where you learn the principles of Ayurvedic cooking and how to apply them to vegetarian foods. We talk about herbs and spices and how balance yourself with nature. Jyoti is such an amazing teacher and chef. I have taken her course through the Art of Living and it was an eye-opening experience for how to cook food that maximizes energy. Thanks PA Online for this timely article on seasonal cooking!
