School starts next Thursday but already there are lots of school events!

When this new calendar was discussed, we were assured that there would be no school activities before the first day of school. JLS jump start day has already occurred and there are many high school events, freshman orientation, picture day, schedule changes, etc. taking place early next week, and many of our students are not coming back to town until next week. Are they already starting at a disadvantage before school even starts?

Don't worry about the small stuff. This is small stuff. Just make sure the kids do their homework, neatly if possible, and turn it in on time. And tell them to pay attention their teachers, not their smart phones.

This is exactly the kind of "calendar creep" that I warned about on the school calendar threads back then. So glad our kids have all graduated and we do not have to put up with this nonsense.

I had advocated starting after Labor Day, pushing finals until early February, graduating the 3rd week of June. No finals pressure during holiday break. And (now) no finals pressure up against college application deadlines.

Looking forward to taking beautiful and warm vacations in late August while so many families are now forced to go back to school in the prime of summer.
