TSA we're not safer

Original post made by paresident on Dec 22, 2011

This Vanity Fair article just blew me away about the TSA. I've been Ok with the TSA screenings until the latest groping/scanner methods were brought in. What a waste of money and what a lot of aggravation for air travelers but very doubtful that we are much safer:

Great article. I am not sticking up for the TSA in general, but I would have to say that in my experience, and thankfully I'm not a frequent traveller, the TSA workers at SFO are courteous and seem like they're pretty efficient. So, they may be wasting time and money, but at least they are doing it kindly and efficiently!

There is not a global let alone a national standard for scanning.

The scanners that were not able to identify the underwear bomber's lethal contraband lead to the ability of identifying an aging cancer patient's firm and damp mass in her adult diaper and only managed to discredit her attendant (daughter?) for not cleaning her up or taking a spare diaper with her on the journey.

On a recent trip in Europe, on my return through the Irish airport, all the umbrellas in carry on luggage were taken by the TSAs and opened in full view of everyone in line and since it was raining outside at the time everyone was sprayed with the residue. Even the still rolled up umbrellas inside the carry on had to come out and be opened for full scrutiny. Back in the day, opening an umbrella inside was supposed to be an invitation for bad luck.

The real question about whether these searches have ever found anything remotely resembling a device that could blow up a plane has never been made known to us.

The hilarious part is that all these years and dollars later..and not one potential terrorist has been caught by TSA.

Perspective finds it hilarious that our airport security has not any terrorists. Does he want another terrorist attack on our soil? Will that make him happy? Seems to me that perspective is one of those al qeida supporting republicans?

"the TSA workers at SFO are courteous and seem like they're pretty efficient. "

That is because the superb screening workers at SFO are NOT TSA employees but rather part of Team SFO which is a private contractor. In my opinion the Team SFO is the best airport screening operation in the nation - efficient, professional and pleasant.

Next time you go through screening at SFO take a moment to seek out and thank a supervisor.

Dear Gary's Brother: It is hilarious in the same vein as the joke about putting cloves of garlic in trees keeps out Elephants in Palo Alto. No elephants means it works, right? So keep throwing money and time at it.

Or along the same lines as the old saying about closing the barn door after the cows are gone. All 'hilarious'
