Really horrid, she shouldn't have died like that. Hope it was quick.
Do people over 70 or so years still be driving?? If so, they SHOULD have MANDATORY periodic assessments of their driving??? I think so. It is truly needed, so the driver and any passengers or pedestrians have a chance to live a bit longer.

Awful. Kudos to the bystanders who attempted to help.

The article reported it was a "minor crash". The first minor collision I had was when I was at age 21, & a 19 year old man that was not paying attention, hit me from behind, as I was at a stop light on El Camino Real in Menlo Park.

He hit my car at a good speed, and my foot came off the brake, but I quickly regained control. But with that said, by "Uggh's" remarks, 19 and 21 year olds perhaps ought not be driving either. Not everyone's reflexes would be that good, and I was stunned when my car was hit, and so forcefully.

So it may not have been this senior's fault. Was someone else the cause of the collision? Maybe someone was on the phone or otherwise distracted and driving at a good clip, such as the young man that hit me from behind years ago?

I was so young (and stupid) back then, instead of calling the police and filing a report, we just exchanged phone numbers. When my insurance man called his number, his father said, "Which son had the accident? I have three sons, and all have been in accidents." They delayed so long, I was never compensated for the dents to my car or the back problems I endured for years.

Had I not been able to regain control of the brake, and my car was sent spinning into traffic, the outcome may have not been that much different. El Camino Real is similar to Foothill Expressway.

We should wait for FACTS before drawing conclusions that the senior was responsible for this. She may have been a victim, all the way around. This is a sad story.

Even if this is a minor crash still, we have to be aware of this kind of accident.Recently, tues the National Traffic Safety Board announced its results in a pileup accident from 2010. The report indicated that an adolescent driver who was texting while driving brought on the crash. The report follows last week's NHTSA survey showing an increase in driver texting. This collision shows the dangers of texting in the car.
