Granny saved: SFPUC agrees to tunnel under tree

After months of concern over Granny's fate, the heritage oak tree will survive the construction of a new water pipeline. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) announced on Oct. 3 that it would tunnel under the tree, thanks to San Mateo County's proposal to create a new park to let the public enjoy the tree.

This is wonderful news! Please be careful when you're tunneling. Take care of those roots so granny will survive and thrive!

Hats off to Mr. Van Thiel and all the people who made this happen! They know who they are and they have done a huge service to their neighborhood and the peninsula community at large.

Very nice ... but a quarter of million price is an awful lot of money for a tree.

When this is done I hope we get some nice pictures of the tree and the pipeline so we can see what it all looks like.
