What was that HUGE plume of smoke at 101/Embarcadero Exit

Original post made by Commuter on Sep 23, 2011

I was driving on 101 at 3:30pm today and saw a huge plume of smoke on East Embarcadero (look like it was near the post office. Does anyone know what happened?

Heard that there was grass fire near the creek and levee on the EPA border, between Daphne Way and the Baylands Center. About 50 feet of fence also caught fire, but it was brought under control by about 4:00PM.
