Photo gallery: Palo Alto Festival of the Arts

Thousands of people strolled down University Avenue this weekend during the 30th annual Palo Alto Festival of the Arts. The festival featured live music, street-painting exhibitions, a sculpture garden, food vendors and approximately 300 artists displaying and selling their work.

Worst PAFA in years. Mostly wall art. Very few of the fine artists we've seen in past years. *VERY* expensive food. I'm afraid that the large volumes of tacky stuff will drive away the fine artists for good.

I've always thought a large measure of the enjoyment of art is derived from the process of separating "tacky" and kitsch efforts from "fine" art, wheat from chaff. Hence the goal of art festivals is to provide an exhibition of all levels of artistic creative endeavors. Sometimes, so-called fine art makes an appearance, making all the times it was absent worthwhile.
