noisy biplane advertising

Original post made by lea cox, Professorville, on Aug 28, 2011

For at least an hour now, a noisy biplane with an allstate sign has been circling the neighborhood of professorville. not only is this noise pollution, but it is a waste of fuel. Why is this permitted?

Aircraft banner towing is regulated by the FAA.

Allstate is obviously funding the advertising operation. Perhaps they could explain why they are funding the damage of the environmentally sensitive habitat of Palo Altans.

Could we do something about those 747s as well?

Don't buy your insurance from Allstate and tell your friends not to as well. Since this is Professorville complaining again perhaps it will make a difference to Allstate's bottom line!!!!

I sympathize w/Lea. We are subjected to waaay too much noise pollution. It's extra annoying when it's private industry advertising - at least we can mute the TV when commercials come on. The right to peaceful enjoyment of our homes - a legal right - is often at odds w/all sorts of inconsiderate folks who insist that we be subjected to their noise.

I don't believe we have a legal right not to expect noise during the day. After all, there is my neighbor's lawnmower, the sound of children playing in the playground, the sound of trashtrucks backing up, the sound of sirens, the sound of traffic, the sound of barking dogs, etc. all polluting my peaceful environment every day.

Whether we are bothered by this noise comes down to our state of mind.

Don't miss out on the discussion!

Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund

For the last 23 years, the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund has given away more than $4 million to local nonprofits serving children and families. When you make a donation, every dollar is automatically doubled, and 100% of the funds go directly to local programs. It’s a great way to ensure your charitable donations are working at home.
