Poor software in HP laptop

I have an HP laptop which came with a bad audio driver. HP has helped me reinstall the OS, and the bad driver, but since the software is faulty, it keeps having the same problem. The tech support people keep pretending that if I just install the same software again and again it will magically not have a problem. Then they tell me it's my headphones, even though the several sets I've tried all work on other products, such as Apple products. Does anyone have an idea of how I might solve this problem?
