Associate Superintendent Ginni Davis is among three Palo Alto school district administrators who will retire this June, Superintendent Kevin Skelly announced Tuesday (March 15).
Also retiring will be William Garrison, director of assessment and evaluation, and David Johnson, director of human resources.
Davis, herself a graduate of one of the first classes at Gunn High School, came to work in the Palo Alto district in 2008 after serving as associate superintendent of the Davis Joint Unified School District. She was promoted to associate superintendent of educational services last summer.
She has overseen curriculum, student services and assessment for the district’s 12,000 students, as well as professional development for the faculty and staff.
Garrison, with the district since 2003, tracks and reports on student testing data and works with teachers and principals on instructional approaches.
Johnson joined the Palo Alto district in 1973 as a special education teacher and has worked as a special education coordinator, a social studies teacher, an assistant principal and coordinator of human resources. His focus has been on health benefits and non-teaching staff members.
“I know I speak for the board and staff when I say how much we appreciate the service of these outstanding educators and other staff members who will be retiring this year,” Skelly said.

With the elementary principal retiring as well, how many PAUSD administrators have left since Skelly rode into town? Half?
PAUSD has lost so many great employees during his tenure. It can’t be a coincidence that everyone is bailing on him, can it?
They’re retiring now to lock-in their generous retirement benefits before Gov Moonbeam tries to reform them.
I agree with Ollie – and while it’s a good thing to lessen the number of administrators right now (hopefully not to be replaced), I doubt that Palo Alto can afford to continue paying these people until the end of time. It’s a no-win situation.
Guess Skelly hasn’t vested his retirement benefits yet, eh? Would be nice to bring in someone who listens, who cares.
So I hate this carping about Skelly. As a parent I think he’s doing a good job. The complaints about him seem mainly to want a dumbing down of the curriculum to make it easier. Nowon the pension side I agree completely. I am not a Republican but I do hope in Sacramento they can get these ludicrous pensions changed immediately…
Skelly listens, especially if you have an ivy league degree.
To bad Skelly is not on the list. He listens if he knows you might fired him, but if he knows that you have no idea how to do this, he does not even reply to your e-mails, or when you speak at the board. So to my and my friends experiences, no he does not listen, or respond to complains. He pretends in public that he will, but the reality is another. We need better leader, or he should be the next one on the list of people who are retiring. Hopefully he will be on the list next year. Our work would be so much easier. He should go back to where he came from, or shape up and realize that he needs to do a better job.
Did any of you watch the last board meeting when a parent address the board, and a board member asked Skelly to reply, and he did not want to. He completely ignored the parent who took his time to go and speak up for our kids, and he also ignored the board member who asked him to answer. This shows how immature and rude he is, and how he does not really cares about the mental health of our kids. He does care about academics. Too bad he does not realize that academics and social emotional needs go together. What a bad example for our kids who are learning from grown ups. Hopefully no kid watch the board meeting.
