Eshoo gets feds to cork loud TV ads

Original post made on Dec 6, 2010

It seems that Democrats and Republicans in Washington D.C. can agree on at least one thing these days: advertisers need to do something about their annoyingly loud TV commercials.

Haven't those liberals heard of FREEDOM OF SPEECH? This law is unconstitutional. Advertising is corporate free speech that cannot be restricted by the feds.

"Advertising is corporate free speech that cannot be restricted by the feds."

Wanna bet?

For one thing, they use publicly owned airwaves ("the commons") and are subject to regulation.

Regulation. You may remember that thing that is slowly coming back for little issues like clean water and air, clean food, keeping the financial system solvent, etc...

Gosh, such an IMPORTANT issue to deal with on our tax-funded expense. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars do we pay for this woman and her staff to come up with such important laws?

So impressive.

Glad we all have a patriotic duty to pay our taxes to support this critical work of government.

Perspective--if a republican would have come up with this idea you would be singing it's praises. Plus it looks like it passed overwhelmingly through Congress.
Freedom of Speech--you need to bone up on your civics and what does and does not constitute free speech and how TV is regulated.

"So impressive."

Yes, in fact, in this day and age of obstructionism, getting near unanimous agreement from both sides is indeed impressive.

Why some folks think the American political system can't work on problems both small and large, is beyond me. I guess they just hate our country, with never a nice thing to say...

Merry Christmas!

"freedom of speech": You are completely incorrect. Congress has the Obligation to regulate the use of the public RF spectrum broadcast to us and through us for the good of the public.

"Perspective": It is nice to see some consensus building from both sides of the aisle for a change. This is how Civility may eventually be restored.

Well...I CAN find something good to say about this...at least it kept her and her staff and the democrats busy enough to take time away from continuing their destruction of our economy.

"at least it kept her and her staff and the democrats busy enough to take time away from continuing their destruction of our economy."

Interesting comment considering it was Bush and his gang that actually destroyed our economy, but ignorance/revisionist history is bliss for the Beck/Limbaugh/Palin/Tea Bagger crowd.
Read anon. and anonymous' comments above. Some people have let their hatred of Obama overtake their common sense.
