Garbage Containers/Composting

Original post made by Peter Williams, Ventura, on May 1, 2009

As a board member and resident of a large condo complex in Palo Alto, I was wondering if anyone else has recently discovered that their "older" larger PASCO metal trash containers (at least 2 cubic yards) were now being replaced with "newer" and smaller one from Green Waste (the city's new garbage contractor)? I find this strange since we are being asked to pay more for garbage collection and actually they are picking up less than before. This may not affect individual homeowners so much, but apartment and condo residents will feel the difference. If anyone can explain why this is happening, etc, I'd appreciate knowing.

Also, does anyone know if apartments/condo complexes can get large "composting bins" for their facilities? What are the requirements for apartments or condos and who do you call. Thanks for the info.

What we are noticing here in Menlo Park is that Allied Waste garbage crews are not emptying our bins out. Either they ignore the pick up completely and give a lame excuse like perhaps there was a substitute driver who missed our route or the pick up was re-routed. The worst is the drivers have been seen opening the garbage cans and picking out the top 2 gargage bags and leaving the rest of the garbage. I am not sure if this is because the garbage man doesn't want to pick up the heavy can or else he is just plain lazy. But, it is happening at all of our properties in lower menlo park so I am putting this on the Internet to see if others are being affected and if so, what can be done to stop it. This is going on 3 months of problems with stinky garbage at our properties and poses health issues.

Can't Allied find good people who will just do their job ?
