Recommend Internet and phone provider

Original post made by New To Green Gables, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Aug 6, 2008

We are moving to Palo Alto from San Mateo and need advice on Internet and phone service. Are Comcast and AT&T the only choices? I'd rather not give my money to companies that willingly opened their customer records to the Government, but it appears as if I have no choice.

In San Mateo we could choose Astound (formerly RCN) for everything and they were wonderful -- good prices and service. Is any alternative like that available here?

Did you find any great alternatives for internet service?

ATT suck. I know because I use them for basic connection. Phone service? Skype.
