City's plan update kick-off exposes varied visions

Original post made on Jul 29, 2008

There was little or no meaningful discussion about the future of Palo Alto during the last Council election. Not only was the ABAG issue not on the table, but most of the Council candidates just danced around what questions were to put more like sock puppets, than people who understood the question, much less had an answer.

The Council's "vision" of Palo Alto should be Palo Alto's vision for Palo Alto. The people who own property in this town have roughly $40B (collectively) at risk--of the nine of these people--some of whom don't seem to have ever even held job.

The last comprehensive plan ended up with a very weird vision of "villages"--which was never supported by the property owners. Given the high stakes here--all future comprehensive plans should be put out for a vote.

What about crime?

What about potholes and storm drains?

What about retail we can use?

What about transportation?

What about homeless in downtown?

What?

The Vision said
"the nine of these people--some of whom don't seem to have ever even held job"
