SUV driven into side of Palo Alto building

Original post made on Jul 11, 2008

A woman drove her white Toyota Highlander into the side of the Chicago Title Co. building at 437 Lytton Ave. in downtown Palo Alto this morning, crashing through a window and damaging the wall of the building. Photos by Marjan Sadoughi/Palo Alto Weekly.

And I'd be very surprised if the driver wasn't talking on her cellphone while "trying to turn her car around in the parking lot next to the building".

Good job she was in a SUV otherwise she could have been seriously injured

I see she stopped in a handicapped parking place. Did she get a ticket for that, or did she have a permit?

Donald,

READ

The woman was apparently trying to turn her car around in the parking lot next to the building, a Palo Alto police officer said.

Top ten reasons for driving into the wall:

1. She disagreed with a handicapped sign location.
2. She decided she must be handicapped first to be able to use that spot.
3. She was upset at the Title company because her house was being foreclosed.
4. It was the cell-phones fault.
5. She wanted to recover money from her insurance co. to buy a Prius.
6. She was upset at her carbon footprint.
7. ..(help me complete the list)

Obviously, she figured that it would take less time to drive through the building than around it.

8. She got confused about where the exit was and thought that it was the building.

9. She forgot which pedal was the gas and which one was the brake.

10. Maximum Overdrive!!!

If she had been driving a car with a manual gear box, this probably would not have happened. Automatic cars are just too easy to drive and too easy to abuse.

If she were an elderly person, her age would have been reported and someone would be blathering on about taking drivers' licenses away from the elderly.

"Good job she was in a SUV otherwise she could have been seriously injured"

Foolish nonsense.

The mass of the average building is many times larger than the mass of an SUV or a compact.

If she'd been in a smaller car she probably would have had a decent turn radius and not had an accident. Good thing she didn't kill someone.

11. She is part of a new reality TV show where cars ram buildings.
12. The graffiti on the wall made her angry.
13. Her car broke off a secret relationship with a Prius, so it decided to end its misery.
14. It was done so users like me could write uncanny if not downright nutty reasons.

15. She was testing the SUV's turning radius (at least she didn't do it in the middle of a busy street & hit a pedestrian).

16. She was testing her new hands-free cell phone device

17. She was escaping a mountain lion attack

18. She was trying to prove she's as bad as any other Prius driver before she traded in her gas guzzler for the trendy hybrid.

If she had hurt someone, they might need that handicapped parking spot she landed in ;)

And the winner is:

17. She was escaping a mountain lion attack

Congratulations, HA HA!

Your prize? Why, the SUV, of course, along with the "Handicapped Parking" sign now permanently wedged into it's right (passenger side) front wheel well!

From HA HA! - Thanks for liking my submission ;) Sounds like the mountain lion in Foothill Park was a ghost, so maybe it was the same one attacking the SUV driver.

I will install my prize in my front yard as art, to be appreciated by The People ;)
