Sixteen vie for spot on art commission

After facing a dearth of applicants for the Public Art Commission in April, the Palo Alto City Council will choose 5 out of 16 applicants on Monday. The field includes not only artists but an architect and even a rocket scientist.

I know that Palo Altans value the arts, but it really surprises me that we have so many willing to be on the arts commission.

I hope that we can find 5 who are willing to look at art as something the public will enjoy and not something that supports those artists whose work is for their personal enjoyment. Some of our public art in Palo Alto is really ugly.
