Our Town: A disturbing incident

Original post made on Apr 29, 2008

It is more than painfully ironic that on the same day, Tuesday last week, there were two pivotal meetings: The Palo Alto school board met in a study session for more than two hours to fine-tune the wording to the district's new Strategic Plan, and Preeva Tramiel, the president of the Palo Alto High School PTA met with student journalists and their advisers and threatened to cut off PTA funding for the Paly student newspaper, the Campanile.

"I'm hoping that a good district strategic plan will mean that, in the future the school board will just say no to private funds that go against the plan."

This is a good example of the socialist mindset: If everyone cannot have something, then nobody should have it. Tens of millions of people were murdered, in the past century, in order to enforce this principle.

The PAUSD BoE should ecnourage private giving, without regard to equity issues. This would be a vote for freedom. Imagine all the private money that is NOT given to PAUSD, becasue it would be held hostage to the socialists. BTW, the MI fiasco was not a result of private money, just a lack of backbone by the BoE. Very sad, indeed.
