Housing Technology Continues to Evolve

Original post made by Mike, College Terrace, on Mar 29, 2008

Web Link

This is a striking prefab that probably wouldn't win any local municipal design awards, but the technology that this house uses points us in the eventual direction of more rapid site development, and self-sustainable housing. Economies of scale will eventually make this kind of housing very affordable - certainly more affordable than current housing design.

There is nothing new under the sun; all things once forgotten only seem new again.

Look up the book "Yesterday's Houses of Tomorrow: Innovative American Homes, 1850 to 1950" Web Link. It chronicles some deservedly forgotten inorganic notions like the Fuller Dymaxion Web Link and Web Link, as well as some useful ideas that really worked for a while Web Link.

Above all don't forget the once-affordable, critically-acclaimed homes for everyman built by Palo Alto's Joseph Eichler.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
