Chop Keenan Guest Opinion on Medical Center

Original post made by Not so fast, Duveneck/St. Francis, on Nov 15, 2007

Yesterday's print version of the PA Weekly (11/14 edition) had a Guest Opinion from Chop Keenan regarding the proposed Stanford Hospital rebuild/expansion. Mr. Keenan's article was a response to the Guest Opinion written by Mayor Kishimoto last week.
Kudos to Mr Keenan for an excellent article, in which he points out that the demands for concessions from Stanford by Kishimoto are unreasonable.
Mr Keenan goes into detail refuting Kishimoto's demands. I encourage allof you to pick up a copy and read it.

Also of interest is the fact that the Weekly had Kishimoto's Guest Opinion in last weeks online edition, but did not put Mr Keenan's Guest Opinion in this week's online edition.
Any reason for this? One has to wonder if The Weekly (aka our city leader's newspaper) is trying to protect Kishimoto from criticism.

Having followed local politics for a number of years it is clear to me that Mayor Kishimoto has something against Stanford--either Stanford is the evil empire in her eyes and/or the source of all the traffic on Embarcadero Road or she just does not appreciate what Stanford means to Palo Alto.
Either way, I feel it would be in the best interest of the city if Kishimoto would resign from the City Council before meaningful negotiations with Stanford begin, since she has shown herself to be biased against Stanford. We need someone on the council that can provide leadership and put aside their petty dislikes for the greater good of the city

NSF,

Don't jump to conclusions. :) Also, it won't help to ask for anyone to step down from office. I suggest staying with the main issue.

Here's Keenan's GO

These comments largely mirror what I wrote here last week,

on the same subject - with additional points made to bolster the argument that we must truly *partner* with Stanford, instead of appraoching the current negotiation with a laundry list of obligations.

It's gratifying to see that other persons of substance agree.

Mike--it looks like the weekly just posted Keenan's opinion recently. it was not online yesterday or this morning.
I do not think that Kishimoto can be fair and objective in her dealings with Stanford, so I opined that it would be best for her to step aside, IMHO

Tyler--Keenan's guest opinion was not on your website until recently, that is why I started a new thread. Otherwise I would posted a comment to the guest opinion
