Soap Box Derby - kids racing - today and tomorrow!!

Original post made by Renata Stachura on Jun 9, 2007

The Palo Alto Elks' Soap Box Derby races are TODAY and TOMORROW (6/9-10) at the 100 block of Dana Street in Mountain View. Kids, including our daughter from Juana Briones school, have built their own gravity cars (with help from Moms/Dads) and will race at 30 MPH down Dana Street! It's really great family fun. Come watch! The winners will go to the world championships in Akron, Ohio!

I went over to the Soap Box Derby in MV. It was so great to see the colorful cars and the girls and boys racing down the hill. I hope it comes to MV again next year.

Our event featured children, who with their parents, built their own race cars from kits purchased from Akron Ohio, as well as two special cars build to carry two kids by members of Mountain View, Santa Clara, San Jose police officers and fire fighters referred to as Super Kids Cars.

The kids must be involved in building the cars, and have to be between 8 and 17 years of age to qualify. The children learn sportsmanship, citizenship, basic building skills and share quality time with their Mom's and Dad's during the most impressionable time in their lives.

Several of our spectators on Sunday asked how they can get involved next year and if we would be holding the races in Mountain View again.
We will race every year from here out as long as there is interest, and we urge you all to learn more about this sport by clicking onto our web-site www.svsbd.com
