Palo Alto and Menlo-Atherton had the top two Division I girls' volleyball programs in the Central Coast Section last season, based on the Vikings' win over the Bears in the 2010 CCS final. The Palo Alto girls' volleyball team kept its perfect season intact by rallying from a two-set deficit to pull off a thrilling five-set victory over visiting Sacred Heart Prep in a battle between two 2010 state finalists on Tuesday night. The Vikings (11-0) overcame five game points in the fourth set and got a clinching kill from Jackie Koenig in the deciding set to post a 20-25, 16-25, 25-13, 27-25, 15-11 triumph over the Gators (6-3). If there was any doubt to whether the Palo Alto girls' volleyball team is deserving of its lofty early season national rankings, it was put to rest on Monday when the brackets for the annual Mitty Invitational were released. Palo Alto (10-0), the defending CIF Division I state champion, will be making only its first-ever appearance in the prestigious Mitty event that includes four teams ranked among the top 25 in the nation in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25.
