Getting one of its best defensive performances of the season, the Sacred Heart Prep boys' water polo team shut down St. Francis, 6-1, in the championship match of the West Catholic Athletic League playoffs on Saturday at Bellarmine Prep in San Jose. The top-seeded Gators (21-5) controlled the finale throughout to claim the overall league crown. SHP also won the regular season with a 6-0 record. Junior Philip Bamberg tallied three goals and senior David Culpan two with senior Robert Dunlevie adding one. Senior goalie Ben Dearborn came up with 12 saves for the Gators. The title match was not only a showdown of the top two seeds, but a matchup of last season's CCS Division I and II champions.
