Gunn senior Paul Summers finished second, his best finish at the SCVAL El Camino Division cross-country championships, but defending champion Mountain View still ran away with the team title on Tuesday over the 2.95-mile layout at Crystal Springs in Belmont. The Spartans' Garrett Rowe won the individual title with a solid 14:58.
Summers ran 15:09 on the warm day, missing a sub-15:00 time that would have gotten him on the all-time list at the course. Mountain View, meanwhile, put all five of its runners among the first 10 and scored just 22 points for the title. Gunn was second (56) and Palo Alto third (63) to advance to the Central Coast Section finals on Nov. 14 back at Crystal Springs.
