The Gunn girls' water polo team ended a lengthy losing streak to rival Palo Alto with an 8-7 overtime victory on Tuesday in a SCVAL De Anza Division match. The outcome did little to change the league race. Los Altos still leads and will be the top seed for the league tournament. Los Gatos remains second with Palo Alto (7-4, 14-9) third. Gunn (6-4, 9-5) looks to be the No. 4 seed for the tourney, but still has a makeup match with Los Gatos.
The importance of Gunn's victory, then, was to give the Titans an edge going into the final league matches and postseason play. Palo Alto had dominated the Titans in recent years, but on Tuesday the tide finally turned.
Gunn senior Alex Lincoln made that happen with her one-on-one goal with 50 seconds to play in the first of two mandatory three-minute overtime periods. Palo Alto had its opportunities, but missed a five-meter penalty shot early in the match and (in the second overtime) had a goal taken away when a foul was called prior to the shot. Paly still had a final shot with under 40 seconds to play in the second OT, but Gunn junior Shelby Newman came up with a steal to seal the Vikings' fate.
Katie Lacek led Gunn with four goals while Lincoln contributed two. Sisters Jenny and Elizabeth Anderson each tallied a goal. Gunn scored five of its goals on 6-on-5 advantages. Sophomore Skylar Dorosin led Paly with three goals.

Looks like theres been a misprint. Shelby Newman scored one and Katie Lacek scored 5. However it is correct that Alex Lincoln scored 2 goals. Report Objectionable Comment or Incorrect Information.
