The top-seeded Stanford Red 16s water polo team began its quest for a national title by swamping American River B, 13-0, on Thursday morning in the S&R Sport Junior Olympics at St. Francis High. Stanford will play a second-round match against NCSD, also at St. Francis, at 1:40 p.m. Coached by Ted Minnis, the team includes Evan Cranston, Elizabeth Anderson, Sayeh Bozorghadad, Jelena Cyr, Caroline Hansen, Rachel Harrus, Hayley Parker, Julia Peters, Katya Schaefer, Hailey Smith, Olivia Santiago and Pippa Temple.
The Junior Olympics will run through Sunday, with medal matches scheduled the final day at Stanford's Avery Aquatics Center.
