The road to the championship game of the American Legion Area 2 Tournament just got tougher for Palo Alto Post 375 following a disappointing 13-2 loss to San Mateo in a second-round game Wednesday at Baylands Athletic Center. Palo Alto now needs to win four straight games to keep its season alive.
Fifth-seeded Post 375 certainly will have to do a better job in the pitching department than it did against top-seeded San Mateo, which worked Palo Alto's staff for 17 walks in eight innings. San Mateo managed only five hits. San Mateo broke the game open with seven runs in the fourth inning, getting only two triples that accounted for three runs.
In addition to the walks, Palo Alto committed six errors and had just three hits -- a single by Wade Hauser, a two-run single by Matt Jost in the first inning and a single by Scott Witte.
