It was a bad start, but good finish for the Palo Alto Oaks as they split their Western Baseball Association (Stan Musial Division) doubleheader with Fontanetti's on Sunday at Baylands Athletic Center. Both games were very close, with the Oaks losing the opener, 4-2.
Jason Kleinhoffer took the loss in the opener, his first of the season. Fontanetti's did most of its damage in the fourth inning when the A's strung together four consecutive hits after an opening walk. Zach Johnson had the big blow, a triple in the inning. In the end, the A's scored three times in the inning.
Offensively for the Oaks, Doug West, Skylar Brewer, and Evan Warner accounted for all seven hits. West was 3 for 3 with a walk and scored both runs. Joe Ramirez replaced Kleinhoffer in the sixth and gave up no runs in three innings of work. Ricky Navarro pitched the ninth and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
The Oaks will play the A's again Saturday at Ohlone College in Fremont before taking on the Menlo Park Legends on Sunday at Baylands starting at 11:30 a.m.
