The Menlo-Atherton Girls’ Varsity Soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a 6-1 win over Capuchino at M-A on Tuesday. Senior Katie Guenin scored 2 goals, making her tally 26 for the season, starting with a dribble up the field 10 minutes into the game for an unassisted goal after a chip from senior Alison Galbraith. Junior Diana Morales hit a wide cross to Guenin for a one touch assist to junior Josephine Cotto, who shot from the top of the box for the Bear’s second goal and first half score of 2-0.
In the beginning of the second half, Morales sent a drop pass to Guenin who shot it into the net. After sophomore Yara Gomez was fouled in the box, senior Margaret Child scored goal number 4 on a penalty kick. Child sent the assist to Morales for the 5th goal late in the second half, and Morales followed with a quick 6th goal shooting from the top of the box over the Capuchino keeper off an assist from Gomez. The Bears reliable defense allowed only one Mustang goal off of a fast break. The M-A seniors started and finished the game including outstanding defenders Ali Sivilotti, Alison Galbraith, Laurel Patrick, and Teresa Amor, midfielders Alissa McNerney, Nicole Salz, and Margaret Child and forward Katie Guenin. Menlo-Atherton plays their last league game on Thursday February 16th at Woodside before moving on to Open Division playoffs.
