In a hard-fought defensive battle, the Palo Alto girls' basketball team came up short in a 33-30 loss at Lynbrook in SCVAL De Anza Division action Friday night. Lynbrook was leading by one with under a minute to play when Paly missed a lay-up that would would have put it up. Lynbrook's Jackie Hudepohl was fouled and sank both free throws. Paly (1-2, 6-8) tried to get off a last-second trey to tie, but was not able to. Paly freshman Siggi Bengston led all scorers with 15 points on 5-for-5 shooting on three-pointers in only her second game of the season after rehabbing a knee injury.
"We played played a very good game defensively, good enough to win," said Paly coach Scott Peters. "But, we have to work on being more skilled and efficient on the offensive end. I am very proud of how hard these girls play the game of basketball."
