Palo Alto fell out of a first-place tie in the SCVAL El Camino Division boys' soccer race following a 2-0 loss to first-place Fremont (4-0, 7-3-1) on Friday. This was a roughly played game on a windy day in Sunnyvale. Both teams came in undefeated in this early season matchup. Paly (2-1, 6-3-1) started out strong with several opportunities, including a Paul Stefanski header that hit off the crossbar bouncing in front of the keeper. The momentum switched after Fremont's Israel Rojas picked up a blocked shot and slammed a hard shot past the Paly keeper Tony Maharaj.
Fremont scored again just six minutes later after Rojas took another shot at the top of the box that was deflected off a Paly defender and went into the upper left corner. Paly started out strong in the second half, playing with the wind to its back. However, the Vikings could not score and had few shots on frame. Paly plays three games next week, beginning with Wilcox at Paly on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
