The Gunn girls' basketball team was held to a single basket in the first quarter and trailed by 34-6 at the half during a 55-35 loss to host McNair in the championship game of the McNair Winter Shootout on Saturday in Stockton. The Eagles improved to 11-0 while the Titans dropped to 7-3.
Gunn solved McNair's full court press enough to score 29 second-half points, fueled by sophomores Meghan Mahoney and Olivia Tapia's eight and six points, respectively, while all-tourney selections junior Zoe Zwerling and senior Claire Klausner each chipped in seven points in the loss.
"We probably played better after we had a chance to settle in a bit against their pressure," Titans coach Sarah Stapp said. "There were a lot of lessons to be learned and this will help us to get better."
