Castilleja trailed by as many as 13 in the first half before putting on a rally that just fell short in a 47-45 loss to Washington (SF) in the seventh-place game of the Terra Nova Tiger Varsity Tournament on Saturday in Pacifica. Trailing by four with 3 1/2 remaining in the fourth, the Gators (3-4) reeled of eight straight points to take a 41-37 lead. The teams would exchange four-point runs as the Eagles tied the score at 41 and again at 45 with a minute left to play. Washington came up with defensive stop in the closing seconds and went the length of the court to hit the game-winning scoop shot. Maddie Tarr had 12 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double for the Gators. Lauren Rantz had 10 rebounds and five blocks while Olivia Nicholls contributed eight point and five steals. Nicholls and Rantz this week became the ninth and 10th players in school history, respectively, to reach the 500 career-point plateau during the tournament.
